OPINION: The Naive American

By John Fedele

The Naive American is the most important element in the upcoming election. As a group, minorities, women, independents, liberals, progressives, and conservatives are but bit players in this drama we call a presidential election. The real star of tomorrow’s America is the naive person.

He or she will accept everything reported by the media as truth; will accept everything said by a candidate as fact; will believe promises made will be kept, and when they are not, will believe it is the fault of the other political party. He or she will blame the other party for their lot in life, even though their party has been in power for 8 years. He or she will live in the past through the revised history taught and repeated by their party. If told they are being misled by their party, they will revert to name calling.

Perhaps the most unfathomable situation is how the Naive American will argue that the truth is a lie. When presented with facts that prove a member or members of their party engages in criminal or unacceptable behavior, he or she will deny it, saying it is a conspiracy against their party member.

In the end, the Naive American will cast his or her vote, not for the best candidate, or for the sake of the country but for the sake of the party, regardless of the consequences.

The Naive American will support either an uncharged felon and lair, or a novice, would be politician. The Naive American will either vote for a woman, just to make history, or vote for a non politician, and hope or the best. In the end, the Naive American could well be the catalyst that ends 240 years of freedom and democracy.
