After months of worry, we can finally rest easy. Ray Merrick, Speaker of the House, and, according to the AP, one of Kansas’ “top legislators,” has stepped forward to take action. And not a moment too late, since the legislature’s no longer in regular session.
What’s he going to do? Why, protect Kansas children.
From what? School’s out, after all. Why, from some transgendered student out there who might want to use the bathroom designated for his or her gender identity. Who knows what that could lead to? I can see Rep. Ray out there now, complete with chain mail armor and sidesword, straight out of the Renaissance Festival, ready to vanquish any poor child who might step into the wrong stall. Or the right one.
Rep. Ray, harrumphing his way through a letter to the U.S. gummint, says, “We will not stand by while Kansas children are used as pawns in a social engineering experiment.”
No, Rep. Ray will have no truck with this experiment to promote bathroom rights. But he’s just fine with the experiment to do away with children’s classroom rights.
That experiment has shredded Kansas Schools, sucked the budget dry, and reduced or destroyed many, if not most, vital services for Kansas school children. Not to mention other raids on the defenseless—that is, on all Kansans.
Storm trooper Merrick’s thuggery has removed representatives from key education and health care committees, real representatives who might have guarded against the Brownback/Merrick/ALEC grand experiment.
We are indeed “pawns in a social engineering experiment.” And Merrick has done absolutely nothing about it—except to make sure we have no defense against it.
